Jamie leads the way at Eastern Creek

Stauffer clean sweeps scorcher at the Creek

The Yamaha Racing Team's Jamie Stauffer has led the charge during a dominant weekend for the factory Superbike and Supersport operations at this weekend's opening round of the Australian Superbike Championship at Eastern Creek.

Piloting both the R1 and R6 in separate classes, Stauffer was relentless in his pursuit of success claiming two pole positions, and four race wins on the way to taking maximum championship points.

Today's results confirmed the form of the team at the pre-season test at the Western Sydney circuit, with young guns Jeremy Crowe and Bryan Staring completing the podium and continuing the march of the R6.

Reigning Australian Superbike champion Jamie Staufer got his campaign for a title hat-trick off to the best possible start at Eastern Creek Raceway today, winning both races and taking maximum points from the meet.

Stauffer set an unbeatable benchmark in the cool conditions in qualifying 1, laying down a 1:30.576 lap, 1.08 seconds quicker than his own circuit record.

In race trim the 28-year-old managed to turn the tables on series veteran Shawn Giles as the battle they enjoyed at the World Superbike support event ignited once more.

Stauffer took slender wins in both races, adding a perfect 50 points to his 1 point for pole position.

"The racing was tough today, Shawn is in great form and Jason (O'Halloran) has made a great start, it's definitely going to be a hard fight for the title this year," said Stauffer.

"It was good to start from pole but the win was never a certainty, there were a number of moments out there, the conditions were really hot and the track was probably lacking grip after the touring car meet here last weekend so it was satisfying to win."

Dan Stauffer capitalised on the R1's strong speed and was a pacesetter in qualifying, taking third place for a front row start.

The resulting battles amongst factory riders saw him finish fifth and seventh in races 1 and 2 respectively, placing him seventh for the round and seventh in the championship batle with 28 points.
