Mallala Next Stop For Yamaha Racing Team

17-04-08
The form operation of the Australian Superbike Championship, the Yamaha Racing Team is looking forward to another strong weekend as the series hits Mallala Motorsport Park in Adelaide.

The Superbike and Supersport riders set the benchmark at the opening round, easily winning both classes.

Attending the pre-round Mallala shakedown, it was apparent the team had lost none of its momentum, with Superbike points leader Jamie Stauffer dipping below the existing circuit lap record on day 1.

Heavy rain and strong winds battered the circuit on the second day, providing little opportunity for track time. Conditions in the region have drastically improved, with a mild top of 25 degrees and three sunny days predicted for this weekend's round.

The team is confident that the R1 and R6 are up to the task at the track, with a steady base setup which will be fine-tuned during practice on Friday.

A recent test session has Yamaha's factory Supersport outfit ready for battle at Mallala Motorsport Park this weekend, the second round of the national Australian Superbike Championship.

Jamie Stauffer was a convincing winner at the opening round at Eastern Creek, but the performance of teammates Jeremy Crowe and Bryan Staring showed that Stauffer certainly won't have it all his own way this year.

Crowe maintained this form as the trio of factory YZF-R6 machines hit a dusty Mallala circuit earlier in the month, topping the timesheets on the exact equal time as Stauffer.

"The test was promising, it was true to form, I feel up to the task of racing alongside Jamie and this could be a great round for me," said Crowe.

"Mallala has been a good track for me in the past, it's short but tricky, and the team has a really strong setup, I can't wait to get out there and score a strong bag of points."

Crowe is placed equal second in the 600cc ranks, on par with teammate Bryan Staring. Both riders are on 38 points.

Staring also impressed at the test, and was just four-tenths of a second off the pace of his teammates at the conclusion of the session.

The Supersport class will also contest two 19-lap races this weekend, with 25 points per race up for grabs, as well as a single point for pole.
